danlambao – Members of the local Public Security Forces (PSF) swarmed the home of writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn around 8AM local time today, November 11, 2011. They served him with a search warrant and confiscated co mputer equipment and accessories, and assorted household goods. According to eyewitnesses, close to 40 members of the PSF and cadres of the Quảng Nam Province’s Information Office rushed into the house of writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn, delivered the search warrant, and accused him and his two children, Huỳnh Thục Vy and Huỳnh Trọng Hiếu of violating the “law regulating the transfer of information.”
Blogger Huỳnh Thục Vi described the raid to danlambao as follows: “Around 30 to 40 members of the PSF suddenly rushed into our small house and practically filled every nook and crany within it. We don’t have too many people in our family and the actions of the PSF created an enormous psychological pressure on us. They also upended the normal daily routine of our household and also that of our neighbors.”
She added: “After the reading of the search warrant, the PSF proceeded to search the house, sealed and carted away computers, memory sticks, as well as several draft articles I was working on… Our family vigorously protests against this raid on our home”.

The search ended at 10:30AM but the PSF didn’t leave the house or the surrounding area until much later. Blogger Huỳnh Thục Vi said that “her family considers the raid an act of “terrorism” perpetrated by the PSF. They are doing this because members of my family have written articles on what really happened in Vietnam and criticized the dictatorship. I am now very concerned about the safety of my family.”
Through danlambao, Blogger Huỳnh Thục Vy said that on behalf of her family she would like to thank all who have expressed their concerns about the raid, and asked that they do voice their opinions publicly so as to help protect her family in the days to come.

Writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn and his two children – daughter Huỳnh Thục Vy and son Huỳnh Trọng Hiếu – currently reside in Tam Kỳ, Quảng Nam. All three members of the Huỳnh family are well known for articles in which they vigorously criticize the dictatorial regime in Vietnam.
In 1992 writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn was sentenced to 10 years in jail for writings that called for freedom and democracy in Vietnam. Released in 2002, he continued to write and publish articles on human rights violations in Vietnam. His two children, Huỳnh Thục Vy and Huỳnh Trọng Hiếu, are young writers/bloggers who are also known for their straight and uncompromising analyses of the current situation in Vietnam.

danlambao – This morning (8AM local time, November 08, 2011) danlambao reported the raid of the home of writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn by members of Quảng Nam Provincial Public Security Forces (PSF). We now report that, after the search, the establishment of the search records, and the confiscation of computer equipment, members of the PSF left the Huỳnh’s home at 10:30AM. However, we now report that the family of writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn continues to be followed and harassed without respite.
It was reported that the number of PSF personnel involved in this second harassment effort was also very large. Spiffily uniformed PSF members were heard wrongly and loudly accusing writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn of committing the crime of “sending illegal emails (?!)” while at an internet cafe. However, as witnessed by numerous people, writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn countered the irrational and made-up accusations of PSF personnel in a straightforward manner.

After more than an hour of back and forth arguments, the Quảng Nam Provincial PSF allowed writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn and blogger Huỳnh Trọng Hiếu to go home using their motocycle. They were on the road for barely two kilometers before they were stopped again by Quảng Nam Provincial Traffic Police (PNP-TP). Although Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn and his son were able to show that their papers were in perfect order, these QNP-TP policemen still tried to detain them. Arguments ensued, and unable to find a legal reason to detain them, these policemen had to let writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn and his son go. However, they followed the father and son pair closely and didn’t go their own way until the pair reached their home.
As of now, writer Huỳnh Ngọc Tuấn and his two children, Huỳnh Trọng Hiếu and Huỳnh Thục Vy have returned home safely. But no one knows what will happen to them in the days to come.
