A recent report by ABC has confirmed what many have claimed for years; infrastructure jobs are going directly to foreign countries, particularly China.
Regardless of the fact that US law usually requires American companies to be picked first for infrastructure jobs, multiple Chinese companies are currently working on U.S. bridges and roads throughout the country.
In California, officials actually claimed that American companies simply could not do the work as fast or as cheap yet multiple U.S. firms have stated that they would have gladly provided the workers.
Sadly, many in the corporate controlled media are merely pretending to care about the destruction of America and, for the most part, have literally worshiped globalism.

Diane Sawyer reporting on U.S. bridge projects going to the Chinese…. NOT Americans. The bridges are right here in the U.S. and yet Obama has approved for Chinese contractors to come in and do the work. What about jobs for Americans???
-
I’m sure this will be debated by some, but this is what happens when unions have controlled Mfg. for the last 50 years. Has anyone ever seen an American roads/bridges company work efficiently? Ever? The only project that comes to mind is the replacement for the bridge that collapsed unexpectedly in Minnesota a couple years ago. If anything, that should be the new standard. We know they can work more quickly, they just don’t want to (or need to). Well, how about a little competition to push things along? Isn’t that what capitalism is all about? Live by the sword, die by the sword, folks…

Actually yes I saw them fix where a truck burned on an overpass which collapsed.
And I5 through sacramento was done faster than schedule.

Maggie McNeill says:
I am not sure how on earth you arrived at the conclusion that the Unions are responsible for all the woes in Mfg. for the last 50 years, or anything else. That comes down to management not doing their jobs as managers and in quality assurance.
Here is what you can thank Unions for:
the establishment of minimum wage
the 40 hour work week
child labor laws
the weekend
the middle class
workplace safety
pensions. Now I am sure I missed some, but you get the drift. No doubt when I get to the point where I draw pension, you will have something nasty or snarky to say about that and how unfair that is that I have one and you don’t. I preferred earning a little less up front to be assured of retirement. Funny thing about that though, while non-union wages plummeted or remained stagnant, Union wages held their own so that in general, now Union employees are ahead in wages also.
My word of advice to you is, join a Union. If you don’t like the direction your Union is going in, then get involved to keep it on track. Without Unions, you can kiss the list of benefits all enjoy goodbye.

big business moved their production facilities to china because of the unions and the fact that the chinese are genetically designed for manual and factory work. the broadcast said that there are no welders in this country. i blame the unionized education industry which is more concerned with teaching multicultural, collectivist, politically correct dogma rather than some practical survival skills. we white entitled americans better face up to the fact that the third world is ready to eat our lunch. i guess we can always learn how to pull a rickshaw.

Harold says:
It all started with the Hatters Union when the USA was the only game in town, but we now live in a world economy where cheap labour is plentiful. I can remember when the USA had the highest steel production in the world and then came in cheap german steel made as $6 an hour while we paid out $17 an hour. The steel procuction has shifted back and forth since but to reply to your remark…sorry jack…the unions have priced themselves out of the market…and because of cheap international labor the jobs go to cheap labour and not to union wages. When the USA wages acced to international level then corporate production will follow. Corporations follow profits and not good will so maybe Obama is doing he right thing by devaluing the dollar to bring labour wages into respective…but I don’t really know as I’m not an expert, just someone who is caught between the rock and a hardspot looking for an extra buck,

bob klinck says:
The governmental (socialist) goal of achieving “full employment” naturally leads to productive inefficiency and sabotage of the efforts of scientists and engineers who strive to reduce the amount of human effort needed to achieve a result. The challenge is not to artificially manufacture work for people, but, rather, to provide them with income that will allow them to buy the output of an increasingly robotized production system. But if the bankers are allowed to continue to prescribe the accountancy rules, we will forevermore have the phenomenon of financial hardship in the midst of real abundance.
-
Cal says:
The “cheap” that they are talking about is the way the work is done and the materials used. Notice that the more newer construction falls apart relatively quickly.
It is an excuse, bringing in foreigners to do American work is NOT what the Constitution says they can do.
They are supposed to make decisions that is best for America instead of what is best for foreign nations. It is past time that we fire them, arrest them, hold them until we replace domestic enemies within the the judicial branch to prosecute them.
It is past time for the arrests and prosecutions.

Sharon wrote,” I’m sure this will be debated by some, but this is what happens when unions have controlled Mfg. for the last 50 years.”
Geez… Sharon – Your wages, benefits, paid time-off and pensions today are a direct result of Unions and Associations that were created during the dirty 30′s and 40′s and organized and negotiated for working men and women. It may sound “cliche” but its true. If your interested, I’m willing to share two books that helped provide insight into why Unions/Associations were created. The first is “The Reuther Family” and the second is “Why Unions Matter” by Michael D. Yates.I’d be glad to send them to you OR you good look for them in a second hand book store.

The workers propbably is payed/workconditions/rules, after their original homeland, despite working in USA.
And that is the problem, you cant fight slavelabor/contracts.
Thats it, either go down to slave wage(china, vietnam, thailand, a.s.o.) or expel them, but to compet against it. Not possible, no fu.. way.To blame ths Unions is drivel, its the goverment that gives the rules.
A new nail in the coffin, for the workers of USA.

Chuck says:
The workers are not Chinese. Most of them are Mexican. Follow the money, you can bet kickbacks are being paid to those that award these contracts, and to our politicians who are allowing it to continue.
It has nothing to do with the free market. It is the greed of those that already have more than the majority of the population.

The Chinese can afford to underbid us because they hold so many US dollars that they might as well use them before they become worthless.
Maybe they’ll buy Central Park or Rhode Island.
Also, they’re probably doing a great job because all this will be theirs someday.

Genevieve says:
Look at it this way. Our manufacturing disappeared years ago. Corporate owners campaigned for tax breaks to send American jobs overseas, where they did not have to worry about paying a living wage or the high cost of health care. Now, about the only factories we have are in sweatshops and prisons. I believe Nike was among the first companies to build for profit prisons, down in Texas. There are a few prisons along our east coast where light bulbs are made. But otherwise, about the only manufacturing we have in this country is bombs. It’s almost illegal to build factories in this country.
Everything we buy comes from China and Korea and other such places. When was the last time you saw something that had been made in the USA? We are living with a giant trade deficit. We owe trillions of dollars to China, which we can never pay. Our bankers are saying that the only way we can solve this problem is by going to war against China, and it doesn’t matter to them who wins or looses, because that is the only way to cancel that unpayable debt.
Our infrastructure has been deteriorating for years. Our roads, bridges and dams are falling apart, and not for a lack of no-how in this country to fix them. Hiring Chinese contractors to work on them is merely a drop in the bucket towards paying what our corporations owe to China. Not a good scene, folks, but fairly inevitable.
-
Gyro Gearloose says:
I watched the Chinese buy and dismantle kaiser fontana back in the 70′s. They brought their own serfs and “paid” them far below even minimum wage. They took the steel mill home. The Chinese steel in the new bay bridge often fails minimum quality tests. When it fails it gets used in the bridge anyway, but there’s a rebate on the price. Such a deal!
What’s going on is obvious.
-
Jerzy says:
If you contracted a US company to do the work, they would just subcontract a Chinese company and pocket the difference.

Pure greed lead to pure evil….

Xi Xiapin says:
Well I think it’s fitting that the Chinese repair these roads and bridges since they probably own half of them. Do people realize how many toll roads and bridge maintenence/toll collections have been bought by the Chinese lately? Hell they probably own half the infrastructure in the United States…..we better wake up soon to the dominate force the Chinese are becoming or someday soon we’ll all be wearing headbands and eating with chopstix……..just sayin’

Union or no union the Chinese produce crap plain and simple. Everything that I have ever purchased that was made in China was literal crap. The San Francisco Bay bridge is being manufactured in China and assembled in America. The scum that makes up our Congress is the problem. Dan says:
Ah Capitalism….love it or you’re a commie. The unions drove the factories out, could be some truth to it. I remember watching 60 minutes about a nuke plant that had cost over runs in the billions. One shift would come on the job and find the place the trashed, the previous shift before they left would smash or ruin the work that they did, so it had to be done over. Oh Jimmy Hoffa, was that really you under tammy faye baker’s make up. Nobody seems to be mentioning that once the lobbyists got the laws changed the corporations moved the factories and pocketed the profits, none of it was passed down to the consumers. It had nothing to do with the unions, it was just the easiest way for the CEO and his lackeys at the top to pocket all the cash. Why would the government do it? Maybe it’s because they run the government like a business or at least try to anyway. When the products have to be imported back in they pay duty on which when you think of all the stuff that comes in generates a lot more tax dollars then when it’s made domestically. Somebody laughed out loud because I wrote that about the government running the country like a business. The US and Canada consist of more than 100,000 government owned corporations, on all levels of government. And those corporations own stock, bonds, T bills, you name it, if you can understand this then you’ll figure out why they didn’t let wall street crash. The debt you read about involves money accumulated from taxes, not investments. The taxes don’t pay the bills so they run a deficit and they never touch the money accrued from investments. North Americans are suckers, and there’s one born every second. Just thought I’d mention that, don’t believe it check it out. Ok what about all the people that lost their jobs. Oh well they don’t matter, and the reason for this is they aren’t real americans. A real American is rich as in a millionaire, everyone else is ….. well….collateral damage, dispensable, sub human…ah capitalism. Now if what I’ve said has made you upset do remember this is capitalism and you’re either too stupid to figure out how to make money or just a whiner who spends all your time and energy complaining about how unfair life is because of the wrong choices you made, then you might want to think about socialism. After all the countries with the highest quality of living are socialist….those would be the North European nordic loved by nazis countries. Cradel to the grave, job for life, pension, cheap or free education, health care. The biggest joke of all is the one where they say Obama is a socialist, if you look up the phrase ‘right wing capitalist opportunist/liar’ you will find obama’s bio and picture there.

Halllen says:
Anyone who still believes we have a free market in America must still believe in the Easter-bunny and shouldn’t be taken seriously. You globalist supporters ought to realize that a nation’s responsibility is to its people, not to the world. Why are we enriching our enemies and weakening ourselves? This was once treason.
“Labor is prior to, and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.” – Abraham Lincoln
We in America have obviously lost respect for labor and we will get our reward in the form of third-world status and the loss of our country.
Reagan accelerated the downward spiral by implementing the “trickle down”. This is a reverse of wealth building for middle class people and we are now living the results. For thousands of years the world lived under the “trickle down” of their masters. We changed that for a while in America and now we are going back. Those who cheer this on should see what they are doing for their children and grandchildren.

Chinese building our roads, and bridges, etc…. Sounds great to me! I guarantee the Chinese will do it a lot faster, cheaper and better then USA workers. American workers are getting fat, lazy and way to greedy, wanting mega-bucks to lean against their shovels.

Gyro Gearloose says:
America is a Union, or it used to be…
Union work is quality work – because it costs so much those jobs have to be run properly. Similarly, scab work is so cheap that corrupt and incompetent management can be used, and that makes scabs “necessary”.
There’s no place for a corrupt or incompetent project manager on a Union Job!
Unions are the fall-guy here. The off-shoring of work is a National Policy set by a lust for greedy quick bucks and is obviously intended to bust the political power of the Unions while enriching already wealthy and powerful people. People of dubious patriotism.
Any confidence man will tell you that there is always a fall-guy, ask Oswald…
-
Joe says:
This is not a union issue, this is a political corruption issue. If you keep electing limp wristed career politicians that are on the take what do you expect. Who issued these work visa’s, who allowed the Chineese to even bid these jobs. The politicians know that this type of thing is illegal. We need to set some examples and put these people in jail for extended periods of time. From the locals all the way up through Washington. Lets put the Halliburton camps to use storing our corrupt politicians.
